Jetting The LC - Page 4 If you are going to shim the needles you will need to remove the tops of the carb (do one at a time). This is accomplished by removing the two phillips screws holding large black plastic top on. When removing these screws keep a slight pressure on the top of the carb as there is a large spring in there. Take the lid off slowly and gently as there is a small 'O' ring in there that is easy to miss as seen in this picture. Place this 'O' ring in a safe place. Remove the spring and set it aside. Take a look down in the carb and you will see a small plastic tab as in this picture. This is the retainer for the needle. With a pair of thin needlenose pliers gently pull this ***straight*** up. This is held in place by 4 plastic 'fingers' inside the slide assembly which lock into an 'O' ring. If you are not careful you can break these and then you get to buy new slides. Again, pull ***straight*** up and be easy. That assembly also has a small spring in it so you want to make sure you keep track of where it flies off to. Once you have this assembly removed this is what the inside of the carb now now looks like and this is what the needle assembly now looks like. If you are going to shim the needles you will need to slide the thick plastic washer off the needle, slide the desired shims on the needle and then slide the plastic washer back. The shims go between the retaining clip and the large plastic washer. Slide the metal washer over the opposite end of the needle (the non pointed end) and push it against the retaining clip, then put the needle back into the slide assembly. Make sure it goes down through the slide and into it's hole in the base of the carb. Put the small spring back on the top of the needle, and replace the retaining plastic holder by pushing ***straight down*** gently. Be gentle with this and make sure you push straight down, as you can easily break the plastic fingers that hold this assembly and then you'll get to buy some new slides. Replace the small 'O' ring on the top of the carb and then replace the cap making sure you have it right. There is a place in the cap for that little 'O' ring. Re-assemble, tighten the top then repeat the process for the other carb. |
