Once you think you have everything connected up and taped up, you might want to pause and check once more. You sure don't want a direct feed 12awg wire making contact with a ground anywhere. Assuming all appears to be well put the cover back on the starter relay and then connect the negative terminal back to the battery and check for smoke.

If you see smoke, smell burning insulation or hear a loud pop you'll want to disconnect that pretty quickly and go back and find what you didn't tape up good enough.

If everything seems well, crank the bike up. If she starts up fine and all is well commence replacing the tank cover, seats and any other appendages you took off.
