Road Test Reference:

Obviously driving down the road snapping pictures is probably not the safest thing to do but I couldn't think of any other way to accomplish what I wanted to show here. I did it, I don't recommend it.

The LC service manual suggests that you should see between 13.5v and 15.0v at 5,000rpm. Personally I'm not going to run my bike to 5,000rpm to see if it will squeeze out 13.5 volts.

Obviously with a 12v system you don't want to see readings below 12v. You might see them though at idle depending on what sort of electrical accessories you are running. I took these as reference pictures after fixing the electrical system on my bike as outlined in this section.

All the test speeds are in 5th gear, low beams only, no lightbar. The only additional non-factory equipment running was two additional taillight bulbs (I converted my turn signals into running lights/turn signal lights).

I tested my bike before doing the fix outlined here and 13.89 was the peak voltage I was able to get. Obviously 14.7 and 14.8 are better for many reasons, not the least of which is keeping the battery properly cycled.

If you are reading 13.5 or less your charging system is operating at the minimum specs.
